OUR COMMUNITY

A shared purpose.
A place to contribute.

The Centre for Online Safety in Marketplaces brings people and perspectives together around prevention. You do not need to be a technical expert to make a useful contribution.

Ways to take part

Start with what
you can bring.

Use the existing routes below to share a listing signal or begin a conversation. We will never ask you to post personal case details publicly.

01

Notice a listing

Capture the URL and identifying details. Submit a signal for controlled human review through Whistle.

How we work

Care with evidence.
Respect for people.

Useful community work is measured by the quality of its contributions and its willingness to learn, including when evidence changes a conclusion.

  1. 01

Be clear about what is known

Separate observed facts, third-party evidence, inference and requested action.

  2. 02

    Protect people and context

Use the designated reporting route for personal case details. Share only the information needed for the task.

  3. 03

    Review before making claims

A listing signal is not a confirmed finding. Assess the exact model and batch, and request appropriate technical evidence.

  4. 04

    Correct and improve

Preserve evidence, support proportionate action and correct the record when later information shows a claim was inaccurate.

About the centre

Built around
community interest.

COSM, the proposed community interest company, is being established around prevention of avoidable product harm in online marketplaces. This is the COSM portal for this community work.

Our relationship to FOLO-UP

This portal connects visitors to FOLO-UP resources and the consumer and professional strands of the work. A formal organisational relationship will be stated when approved.

FOLO-UP is an independent public-interest initiative founded by Joffrey Bogemans after he suffered serious injuries in 2023 when a telescopic ladder bought through Amazon collapsed.

COSM and FOLO-UP are not regulators. No government, regulatory or organisational endorsement is implied.
